These boats are built to an indigenous design by a private Turkish Yonca/Onuk shipyard. The prototype boat made 55,6 knots on trials.
First boat was handed to the Coast Guard in September 1998 and the last one in 2002. Like all Kaan class boats these are made off advanced composite materials.
