Comments:
The Gür class submarines have the same physical appearance and characteristics as the Preveze class submarines. Since Turkish Navy stopped painting pennant numbers on the hulls of submarines in order to increase their stealth, it has become impossible from outside to identify the 8 submarines of the Preveze and Gür classes.
A contract for a second batch of Preveze class was signed between the Turkish Navy and HDW at 22 July 1998. The construction of S-357 TCG Gür was started two days later.
Turkish Navy considers these boats as a separate class because of their advanced features. These are:
- A new fire control system integrated with the sonar
- New data links
- Improved target acquisition and tracking capabilities
