They can carry 600 troops, 11 tanks and 2 LCVP’s. Both were built in now closed Taşkızak Naval Shipyard, İstanbul. The Sarucabey class is an enlarged version of now deleted Çakabey class.
Like all large Turkish amphibious ships they have mine laying capability as a secondary role.
