On 26 August 2014 US Navy cruiser USS Vella Gulf ended her third deployment to the Black Sea. The same day the Russian landing ship Saratov returned to the Black Sea. The two ships must have passed each other somewhere in the vicinity at the northern entrance of the Bosphorus.
