Supreme Military Board, has elected Admiral Eşref Uğur Yiğit, Commander of Turkish Naval Fleet, as the new Commander of Turkish Navy.

Admiral Yiğit, was born in İstanbul in 1945. After graduating as a junior ensign from the Naval Academy in 1966 he started serving in the Turkish Navy.

Having served on board various destroyers as branch officer and division officer until 1975, Admiral Yiğit, graduated from Turkish Naval War College in 1977.

Admiral Yiğit, was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral (LH) in, 1992, after which he was assigned as the Head of Naval Academy. Education and Training Department in Turkish Naval Forces Command between 1992-1994, Chief of Personnel in the Turkish Naval Forces Command between 1994-1995, Commander of Turkish Mine Group between 1995-1996.

Admiral Yiğit was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral (UH) in 1997. He was designated as head of Logistics Department. Having completed his tenure he served as the Commander of Turkish Mine Group, Inspector General in Turkish Naval Forces Command.

Upon his promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral on August 30th, 2002 he was assigned as Inspector General in Turkish Naval Forces Command; COS, Turkish Naval Forces Command and Northern Sea Area Commander between 2005-2007. He was promoted to the rank of Admiral in 2007 and assigned as the Commander of the Turkish Fleet between 2007-2009.
