Turkish General Staff announced today that 7 pirates were arrested by Turkish naval special forces team from TCG Gediz.
The skiff was suspicious therefore TCG Gediz was ordered to intervene before a crime was committed.
The intervention happened at around 14:00 and the helicopter of the frigate also assisted the naval commandos.
This is the second time that Somali pirates were arrested by Turkish Navy.
As TCG Gediz is part of the NATO maritime task force SNMG-2, the pirates will eventual handed to NATO officials. NATO did not decided whether to prosecute of how to prosecute with pirates, these fellows will be released in the end and may return to the sea again.
