We had a lovely weekend for ship spotters in Istanbul. On Saturday, the Russian landing ships Alexander Otrakovski and Alexander Shabalin made their northbound passage. The ships seem to be loaded. That is of course my speculation. But if they were loaded what would they be bringing back on their Syrian Express deployment?

Shortly after the Russian ships started their northbound passage, US Navy destroyer USS Ross has arrived as advertised previously by US Navy. She followed the Russian landing ships as she proceeded to the Black Sea.

At the same time 3 Chinese warships were also in Marmara Sea and they were expected to arrive. But they have arrived early in the next morning. But that is another story.

On Sunday the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Slava class cruiser Moskva returned to the Black Sea. She was deployed 9 days ago to take part in the Sino Russian naval exercise in the Mediterranean.
